At a time when music was losing its luster and remixes were infamous, came a man who changed it all. DJ Suketu.
Suketu's latest block buster remix is Saara Zamaana for India's first Diva band D-MAJOR.
A Times Music discovery way back in 2001, he has churned out some of the most successful and loved remixes of all time. His skills were nurtured by 4 times UK champion and 2 times world champion DJ Cut Master Swift at the DMC (Disco Mixing Club) headquarters in Burnham. Soon after this DJ Suketu went on to win the DMC in 1999 and became the number 1 DJ in Mumbai and India and represented India in the World DJ Mixing Championships in New York.
He released his first album '440 Volts' in 2002. His single 'Pyar Zindagi Hai' entered the charts at no.1 and parked itself there for 8 weeks. He followed it up with 'Bin Tere Sanam' which is his wildly successful party anthem. 'Bin Tere Sanam' was an overnight sensation. It debuted at number 1 on the Indi pop charts and stayed there for 20 weeks! It was one of the most frequently played tracks in nightclubs all over not only India but the world and can be rightfully called the remix of the decade. Later that year, the track was recognised as the highest selling remix in the history in Indian music and was awarded the Best Remix Of the year by MTV India.
DJ Suketu has worked with many composers on numerous projects. Among a few are Pritam, Adnan Sami, Shankar Ehsan Loy, Himesh Reshamiya and Vishal Shekhar. He collaborated with composer and singer Atif Aslam in 2004 to recreate 'Woh Lamhe' a song from the movie Zeher. The recreation become a sensation, an anthem of sorts once again. 'Woh Lamhe' wasn't just the biggest remix of year, it remains timeless and an eternal favourite of millions. 2004 was a double whammy year for DJ Suketu with the release of 'Kya Khoob Lagati Ho' another chartbuster . Along with fame and fan following came the respect and adulation of the music industry. He was awarded by HMV Sa Re Ga Ma and Vishesh Films for making the highest selling Bollywood Film remix for 'Woh Lamhe'. He went on to win the MTV IMMIES 2005 in the Best Remix/Pop music category for Kya Khoob Lagti Ho.
After the success of Woh Lamhe DJ Suketu has worked with Vishesh films on almost all of their films, assuring them of a stellar soundtrack. His recreations of songs in Kalyug and Awarapan became a rage. 'Aadat' from Kalyug was once again the highest selling remix of 2005. With his 3 remixed tracks from the film Awarapan, namely 'Toh Phir Aao', ''Tera Mera Rishta and 'Mahiya', Suketu set a new standard of excellence. All tracks became super hits and were well received by the industry.
This wasn't it for Suketu. He was soon invited to be a celebrity guest and judge on National Television (Sony TV) to judge the remix round of the reality show K for Kishore. Not only did he judge the show amongst respected musicians like Bappi Lahiri, Amit Kumar and Sudesh Bhosle but he also did all the remixes on which the singers sang and so did the 3 judges. In 2008, Bandya Ho remixed by Suketu, from the international award winning film Khuda Ke Liye (In The Name Of God) became a big hit all over the world. DJ Suketu also remixed songs for classical maestros like Rahul Shiv Kumar Sharma and Richard Clayderman called 'The Chase' from the album 'Confluence 2'.
DJ Suketu had the honor of remixing a track by world renowned Sarangi player and composer Ustad Sultan Khan. The song was called 'Maula' from the album 'Gurus In Collaboration. He also won the Desi hits competition to re-mix Sean Kingston's Beautiful Girl's desi version called Bollywood Girls. DJ Suketu will be working with Sean Kingston in his new album.
Suketu brought in the 2009 with style, with his new remix album Ultimix and the title track Tere Jaisa Pyara and remixes from the film 'Raaz- 2'. With 'Oh Janaa and 'Mahi' he introduced a new, contemporary sound. He was felicitated along with Madhur Bhandarkar, Priyanka Chopra and Akshay Kumar by the Lions Club of India for his excellence in the field of DJ'ING for the year 2008 - 09. He also been awarded by the Zee Network for the same in 2004 - 05. This was not all for 2009. Things just got hotter on the club dancefloors and parties with DJ Suketu's remix of Aa Dekhe Zara from the 2009 (Neil Nitin Mukesh and Bipasha Basu starrer) film Aa Dekhe Zara.
DJ Suketu not only did remixes but did an original anthem track for Team India during the World Cup in association with Mid Day called Dhoom Machale World Cup Uthale sung by Shaan. This was soon followed by an original song for the film Nehle Pe Dhehla called Khuda Gawah Hoga sung by Zubeen Garg and the film starred Saif Ali Khan and Sanjay Dutt.
In this journey of his, DJ Suketu had the experience of being a consultant to open 2 night clubs in Mumbai called Seven and The Bed Lounge. Here, till he was associated with the clubs they were the highest money making clubs in Mumbai only 2nd to Enigma.
