About Mohammed Aziz
Mohammad Aziz also known as Munna, was a famous Indian multilingual playback singer who primarily sang for the Bollywood, Bengali and Odia films. He sang about twenty thousand songs, including Sufi devotional songs and other genres in more than ten different Indian regional languages. He made his first appearance in films with a Bengali film titled Jyoti, and later he appeared in his first Hindi film titled Ambar around 1984. His two prominent songs, including "Mard Taangewala" composed by Anu Malik were introduced in Mard. He had sung numerous duets in 1980s and 1990s with Anuradha Paudwal, Kavita Krishnamurthy, Lata Mangeshkar, Sadhana Sargam, S. Janaki, Asha Bhosle, Alka Yagnik, Salma Agha, Hemlata (singer), Sapna Mukherjee, Chandrani Mukherjee, Poornima (singer), Sulakshana Pandit, Vijayta Pandit, Sarika Kapoor, Uttara Kelkar, Usha Mangeshkar and Alisha Chinai. Many of his songs such as "Lal Dupatta Malmal Ka", "My Name Is lakhan", "Main Teri Mohabbat Main", "Aap Ke Aa Jane Se", "Aajkal Yaad Kuchh" and "Dil Le Gayi Teri Bindiya" are recognized one of the prominent songs he sang as a playback singer. He was the most popular singer of mid 80's to early 90's. He was one of the rare singers who could sing at the 7th note (saatwan sur).Originally a restaurant singer, he went to Mumbai around 1984 where he was introduced to the Hindi cinema by Anu Malik. The recipient of two uncertain awards for Best Playback Singer, his last film was Kaafila. Prior to this, he sang for the film Karan Arjun.
He was involved with music during his childhood. Later he started his professional musical career with a Bengali film titled Jyoti. He went to Mumbai for a better career opportunities in film industry where he was introduced to Bollywood's film Ambar around 1984 by music director Anu Malik; however his first prominent singing role appeared in Mard film. The title song "Mard Tangewala" of this film became a super hit. After the success of this song he gave several hits in 1985 such as "Aate aate aate teri yaad aagai" from Jaan Ki Baazi. Since then, he was the most sought singer in Bollywood film industry in that decade. He worked with several music directors such as Naushad, O. P. Nayyar, Kalyanji-Anandji, Laxmikant-Pyarelal, Bappi Lahiri, Anu Malik, Anand-Milind, Rajesh Roshan, Jatin-Lalit, Ravindra Jain, Raamlaxman, Usha Khanna, Aadesh Shrivastava, Nadeem-Shravan and Rahul Dev Burman among others. He had also sung bhajans, private albums and Odia film songs until he was introduced as a playback singer in Hindi language films. Besides working in films, he also participated in stage shows in India and other countries.Most of his films features prominent actors such as Amitabh Bachchan, Govinda, Rishi Kapoor, Mithun Chakraborty, Sunny Deol, Anil Kapoor, Shatrughan Sinha, Jitendra, Jackie Shroff and several others. Apart from the female singers, he appeared some duets with some male singers such as Manhar Udhas, Nitin Mukesh, Kishore Kumar, Kumar Sanu, Shailendra Singh (singer), S. P. Balasubrahmanyam, Amit Kumar, Vinod Rathod, Sudesh Bhosle and Suresh Wadkar.
