Kailash Kher is not only one of the most loved Indian artists internationally, but also among the most respected for his modest and inspiring lifestyle. He was born on the 7th of July, 1973 in Meerut and his parents moved to Delhi, few years after his birth. Throughout his formative years, Kailash was influenced immensely by the spiritual music of his father and the mellisonant and ariose culture of rustic and folksy surroundings he grew up in. As a youngster, he was influenced by Pandit Kumar Gandharv, renowned Indian classical singer. Coming from a conservative family, Kailash pursued his love for music as a hobby, but did not see it as a career option until quite some time, dabbing between various businesses and trying to make a living and sustain the passion for music at the same time. Finally when Kailash decided to take the leap, he moved to Mumbai in the year 2001, where he started his foray into the music industry by singing jingles for various TV and radio commercials. He received critical acclaim for his unique style of singing. Some of the famous commercials that he sang were for brands like Coca Cola, Citibank, Pepsi, IPL Cricket Anthem, HDFC Bank, Hyundai Santro, Nakshatra Diamonds, Maruti, Honda Motor Cycles and the Indian Cricket League (ICL) anthem song, In 2007, Kailash had participated in a TV show on channel 9X, called Mission ustaad, as a celebrity performer organized by The United Nations. The show had a noble cause where along with highlighting the mephistophelian issue of human trafficking, many universal problems like female feticide, poverty, child labour, global warming, health and environmental problems etc, were discussed and highlighted for the awareness of people and the governments of various countries. He has been felicitated and awarded, by United Nations for the excellent contribution to the "Millennium Development Goal". It is awe inspiring how quickly Kailash learns languages and on various occasions, he has recorded songs in languages he has heard for the first time within a matter of minutes. To top it up, his songs in regional languages are the rage these days and are becoming smash hits on the regional charts. Today, Kailash has sung for most of the biggest stars and their movies in Hindi and regional Indian films. He has sung for all the renowned music composers like Shanker-Ehsaan-Loy, Vishal-Shekhar, Salim-Sulaiman, Zakir Hussain, Vishal Bhardwaj and A.R. Rahman. Kailash is also in a way responsible to bring out the first smash hit album in the Indian music market in years. After the huge success of his debut song, "Allah ke Bande" in the film "Waisa bhi Hota Hai Part-II", Kailash started doing concerts in and outside India. At the same time he formed his Band "KAILASA" with Mumbai based musician brothers, Paresh Kamath and Naresh Kamath. The band"s first album "Kailasa", released in March, 2006, went on to revive the Indian pop music market like no album had done before. The album was an immediate smash hit. The Indian edition of Rolling stones magazine in their April 2009 issue, had listed the song "Teri Deewani", from the album Kailasa No.1 on their indi-pop music chart. Their second album, "Kailasa Jhoomo Re" released in May, 2007, went on to be an equally smash hit. With songs like saiyaan touching the right chords with Indian as well as international audiences. Musical Style

Kailasa's music is a blend of medieval Indian music, Sufi and Western music. Lyrical themes though vary but the most distinct style of Kailash Kher is where he sings as through a female devotee/lover trying to persuade her deity/loved one. Fusion of love, worship and persuasion is inspired by the works of medieval Rajasthani poet Meerabai. Such an influence can be observed in songs 'Teri Deewani' and 'Albela Saajan' from their eponymous debut album. Similar theme can be found in another of their song 'Babam Bam' from the album 'Jhoomo Re' where the singer is persuading Lord Shiva.
Due to the complex nature of musical arrangement in their songs, Kailasa involve artists other than band members in the recording process to play instruments like Harmonium, Dholak, Sarangi, Iranian Setar, Ravanahatta, Rabab, Saz, Oud, Mandolin, Santoor, Sitar, Mor Chang, Khartal etc. The artists are credited for their work in each of their album.

The band has performed in more than 100 cities worldwide including Delhi, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Singapore, Malaysia, Houston, San Francisco and New York. Kailasa also performed at the annual festival of Amity University at Noida on 18 February 2011.Recently Kailasa performed at the 41st International Annual Cultural fest of BITS Pilani, Oasis 2011 on 22nd October 2011.
