Soft Rock Band from Mumbai



'Brown Folk' is a 4 piece band, which includes Prasad on Rhythm & lead guitar, Vinayak on Percussion, Shriram on Flute & Geetu Hinduja does the vocals & plays the guitar.

Geetu Hinduja has been performing for several years. She has trained in various forms of Music. She learnt how to sing Bhajans from Late Shri P. D. Jalota. Neela Bhagwat taught her Indian Classical music for several years. She has sung with the Stop Gaps Choir. Geetu traveled to the US to train her voice with Mili Bermejo; who was then the head of the vocal department at the Berklee College of Music. Geetu did some more voice training from Celia Lobo & Marianne D'cruz too. She has also studied guitar with eminent musicians like Bismarck, D. Wood & Ashley Quiney. As a musician who has been impacting the Asian Diaspora; she is equally at home with original compositions as well as singing covers of artists that encompass the genre of western folk, soft rock and alternative.

Prasad Ruparel started playing guitar at age 16 with Mumbai based rock band "Blue Grass". He studied music in the US and honed his skills performing and recording there (1997-2004). His US credits include Country western band "Wildheart", classical guitar trio "No Strings Attached" and rock band "Immigrunts". Since his return to India he has been collaborating with artists across styles to create a body of music, which knows no boundaries of genres.

Vinayak Radhakrishnan - Starting off as a part of his college rock band, Vinayak is now a trained percussionist and a bass guitarist. Passionate about music, he has composed music for two short films and a corporate film. He is currently composing music for his debut album. It was while pursuing his Masters degree in Biotechnology, that Vinayak realised that his inclination lay towards photography and music. This led him to pursue a Steadicam course from the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) at Toronto in 2001. Ever since, he has been a part of the Indian film industry, having worked on national films like Yuva, Ghajini, A Wednesday, Lakshya and Hollywood films like The Rebound and West is West, amongst others.

Shriram plays the Bansuri & the Western Flute. A disciple of the World-renowned Flute Maestro Pundit Ronu Majumdar, Shriram has been playing the flute for the last 10 years and is undergoing rigorous training in Hindustani Classical music. He accompanies a whole range of artistes across genres like Indian Classical, Jazz, Rock, Folk etc. An active sessions musicians he has played for a number a range of Ad jingles, Short Films, Background Scores.Apart from this Shriram performs with his folk fusion band "FILTER COFFEE" and has performed at prestigious locations around the country and the world.
