About Thatcher Welden

Perseverance and advocacy have been in Thatcher's blood since a young age. She chose to throw herself headfirst into filmmaking at the age of fifteen when she was diagnosed with a rare hereditary condition and figured out that documentary work was the quickest way to access specialists she couldn't otherwise afford. Thatcher's passion for advocacy stems from being the youngest child of gay moms. From the very beginning, her parents instilled in her the importance of three things, being genuinely happy, staying healthy, and helping others. This inspired Thatcher to work on a number of local and national political campaigns fighting for the ideals she believes in. During her time at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts (UNCSA), Thatcher produced four capstone films that have gone on to be programmed in an array of international festivals. She has also attended the Cannes International Film Festival twice as an intern and the Sundance International Film festival once as a student. She also studied business ethics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, spent a summer working at the Charlotte Regional Film Commissioners Office. All the while working to support herself financially as a barista at Starbucks. Thatcher graduated from UNCSA, School of Drama High School program with a focus on directing and gained a foundation in the visual and performing arts. More recently in May of 2020, Thatcher graduated from UNCSA School of Filmmaking with a concentration in producing and a minor in entrepreneurship. In May 2021, Thatcher received a Masters in Management from Wake Forest University, School of Business. Ultimately, her goal is to work in the entertainment business with a creative sensibility....
