About Stephen Van Dorn
Originally from Denver, Colorado, Stephen started acting and singing almost from birth. As a child, he was in the world-renowned Colorado Children's Chorale, under the direction of Duaine Wolfe. He toured nearly the entire United States before he was 15, and performed in Lincoln Center in NYC for such luminaries as Jackie Onassis at the young age of 12. He appeared on the Today Show, and locally in several commercials and human interest pieces on the news.He continued his dramatic career in high school productions at Horizon High School in Brighton, Colorado, where he played in Ten Little Indians, Grease, The Matchmaker, South Pacific, and as Tevye in Fiddler on the Roof. Fellow classmate Matthew Ryan Hoge went on to direct the critically acclaimed film, The United States of Leland, starring Kevin Spacey.The next year saw him as a freshman at Bethel University, where he sang in the choir, and further honed his acting skills in productions of The Foreigner, Fiddler on the Roof, The Taming of the Shrew, Fools, The Mystery of Edwin Drood and The Diviners. His career in the choir was marked with distinctions including Student Director. It was there that he double-majored in Theatre Arts and Sacred Music, graduating magna cum laude.Moving to Los Angeles, shortly thereafter, he was quickly swept up in the theatre scene, and multiple roles in film followed. Introduced to the prestigious Warner Loughlin Studios by a friend, it was there that his craft was to find its deepest roots as he studied under the brilliant hand of Warner Loughlin herself, and continues with her over a decade later. Stephen began teaching Warner's technique in 2011, and has continued there when he's not traveling doing film and theater. His original class at Warner Loughlin Studios was distinguished with such stars as Zooey Deschanel and Amy Adams, and the scream queen, Cerina Vincent, in addition to the brilliant Jen Dede, Meaghan Perry, and Elena Evangelo.Stephen's best friend, Paul Simmons, is a doctor of medicine in Fruita, Colorado. It was Simmons' influence on Stephen that turned him into the Star Trek nut he is today.Stephen continues to perform with orchestras throughout California, in addition to his acting work, and has performed with Richard M. Sherman in concerts of the composer's music with the Golden State Pops Orchestra in March of 2015....
