About Skyler Ray-Benson Davis
Skyler Ray Benson Davis is a re(Actor), mus(ish)cian, writer-of-wrongs, peer-advocate, and StoryYeller of Tlingit, French-Canadian, Polish, and Danish ancestry. His mother's name is Amber Lee Nickerson, and his father's name was Scott Lorne Davis. He is of the Eagle (Ch'aak') moiety, and is a grandchild of the Jilkaat Kwaan, with roots from Klukwan, Alaska (The Eternal Village). Skyler has had an eclectic, and colorful, history; from mushing dogs in Tok, Alaska, to riding horses and hauling hay in Koosharem, Utah, to being stranded in Fort Nelson, British Columbia for nine days (due to a broken flywheel), whilst traveling via fifth wheel, (with Mom's ex-ex-ex husband) across the United States. Other countries he has visited include Northern Ireland, Scotland, and the United Kingdom. He attended, and graduated with honors, from the Alaska Military Youth Academy (Cycle 11-2) before attending the University of Alaska, Anchorage, in 2012. During the 2012 Academic year, Skyler was hospitalized (turning eighteen years old in Alaska Psychiatric Institute) and diagnosed with Schizoaffective Disorder, which has been in remission since he recovered in 2014. Skyler has used his experiences with Schizoaffective Disorder, and suicide, in his work as an actor, in tours of "The Winter Bear Project" by Anne Hanley; as a volunteer and peer-advocate for 'Soteria-Alaska', as well as with 'The Unusual Suspects Theatre Company" , which goes to schools, hospitals, and correctional facilities in the greater Los Angeles area to facilitate the youth in the creation of their stories, and designs, for theatrical stage adaptations, completely written, performed, and designed by the youth of these communities. He has aspirations in returning to school, to study and train, to become a Registered Drama Therapist (RDT). Skyler is a member of the 'New American Theatre' in West Hollywood, California. He is passionate about new plays, especially by Indigenous American authors and playwrights, and is also committed to community engagement and outreach, particularly with the youth. Skyler has lived in, and traveled, to many places throughout his life but, as of 2020, calls Anchorage, Alaska, his home. This is where he grew up, and also got his start in the community theatre scene, eventually leading to the opportunity to have a career that he is grateful and appreciative of....
