He graduated with bachelor's degree from Louisiana Tech in Geology. After graduating, he went on to serve 6 years in the US Navy. During his time in the Navy, he visited ports of call in France, Spain, Italy, and numerous other places. He served during the Desert Shield and Desert Storm operations.
