She joined SM Entertainment as a kpop idol trainee in 2009 and trained for five years. On August 1, 2014, Irene made her official debut as a member of Red Velvet as a leader and their member. Irene is the main rapper of the group, lead dancer, center, visual, leader, a vocalist, and the oldest member. Since then, Red Velvet has come to make a name for themselves as one of the most popular Kpop groups in South Korea and worldwide.
