Jennifer Mary Mullen was born on 22nd April 1983, in Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire, to Annetta Mullen, a teacher, and Eric Mullen, a forensic scientist and investigator. Her father is from a military family based in Cumbria, and her mother is from Linslade, Bedfordshire. She has a sister, Patricia, a businesswoman who lives in Melbourne, Australia. Her surname change to "Castle" was a result of Equity rules - there was already another actor using the name Jennifer Mullen. As her maiden name (Kerr) and Grandmother's maiden name (Woolhead) were both subject to mispronunciation, she chose the surname Castle, because the day she chose her new name, her sister took her on a day trip to Bodiam Castle.Jennifer lived in England until the age of 6, when her parents moved the family to Singapore. At school there, she discovered theatre and participated in many productions until her graduation in 2001, whereupon she won a place on the Foundation course at LAMDA, in London.Her time at LAMDA being productive, she subsequently embarked upon the full degree course at RADA, her classmates including other successful actors including Tom Hiddleston, Andrea Riseborough and David Dawson. Just after graduation, having won rave reviews in a theatre production about the life of Henry Irving at the Theatre Museum in Covent Garden, she won her first role in a film, as Jane in "Miss Potter" alongside Renee Zellweger and Ewan McGregor.Over the years, she has built a reputation as a character actress, playing a variety of roles on television, from the beloved teacher Miss Percy in "Topsy and Tim" to a cruel Alpha Mum in "Motherland." She has worked alongside a variety of household names from Anthony Hopkins to Helen Mirren.Her partner is the multi award winning director Ross Boyask....
